Danish energy giant Orsted has put back the completion of its 120MW Skipjack offshore wind farm off the US east coast by one year because of permitting issues.
Orsted said it is receiving the project’s federal Notice of Intent later than originally anticipated and so will delay completion of Skipjack to the end of 2023 instead of late 2022.
The delay would put Orsted in the “strongest position possible to deliver a successful project”, the company said.
“Orsted remains firmly committed to working with our federal partners to complete Skipjack and provide clean, reliable offshore wind energy to 35,000 homes in the Delmarva region,” it added.
The company thanked its partners at the local, state, and federal level for continued engagement.
“As public health safeguards are lifted in the Delmarva region, Orsted looks forward to scheduling new opportunities for residents to learn about the immense economic and environmental benefits associated with the Skipjack wind farm and this new American industry,” it said.
Skipjack has lined up GE as the preferred supplier of 12MW Haliade-X turbines for the project.
