Orsted and Eversource have selected global design company Stantec to lead environmental permitting and assessment for the 880MW Sunrise Wind offshore project in the US.
Stantec said the project, located off Montauk Point, Long Island, aligns with its strategic plan, which include addressing climate change.
“This is an exciting project that, when complete, will generate enough electricity to power more than 500,000 homes,” said renewables sector leader Diane Sullivan.
“As offshore wind energy continues to expand along the East Coast, our Stantec team is uniquely equipped with the skills and expertise to support the planning and delivery of these complex renewable energy projects.”
Siemens Gamesa is to supplier turbines for the project, which secured capacity last year in the first New York offshore wind solicitation.
Sunrise Wind is due online by 2024.
