Orsted has secured approval to buy capacity interconnection rights (CIR) for its 1100MW Ocean Wind project off the coast of New Jersey.
The state’s Board of Public Utilities (BPU) approved the developer’s request to purchase the rights, which will land power onshore at the existing electrical grid infrastructure at the retied Oyster Creek nuclear power station.
The developer said in a statement: “Last week we experienced a project milestone when the BPU approved our request to purchase CIRs for our Ocean Wind project.
“This action provides the project with additional certainty in the interconnection process and advances our efforts to potentially connect the wind farm to the existing electrical grid infrastructure at the retired Oyster Creek nuclear facility.
“We are so pleased the BPU continues to support us in building upon these steps that are helping us in maturing the project.”
Orsted will build the wind farm over 20km from the coast of Atlantic city.
