The Orsted-Skyborn Renewables consortium behind the 704MW Revolution Wind filed suit in US federal court today challenging the Trump administration’s order that halted the project in its tracks.
Revolution Wind, which is situated off the coasts of Connecticut and Rhode Island, was roughly 80% complete at the time of the order.
The consortium will also soon file a request for a preliminary injunction against the stop work order.
In a release, Orsted said: “While Revolution Wind will continue to seek to work collaboratively with the Administration and other stakeholders toward a prompt resolution, it believes that BOEM lacked legal authority for the stop-work order and that the stop-work order’s stated basis violated applicable law.
“The project is facing substantial harm from continuation of the stop-work order, and as a result, litigation is a necessary step.”
The developer said that 70% of the project’s wind turbines have been installed, alongside 100% of the foundations. The export cable is nearly complete, they added, as is 90% of the onshore substation.
