OVO Energy has entered into a power purchase agreement with Orsted to buy green power from the 90MW Barrow offshore wind farm.
OVO Energy will purchase 100% of the power from the wind farm, which help to increase the amount of renewable electricity its supplies that is backed by UK renewable generation to almost 40%.
OVO Energy CEO Ben Blake said: “We’re proud to work with Orsted on a major power purchase agreement.
“In the future, we’re committed to exploring how we can source more energy from renewable generation here in the UK, supporting the industry and helping to drive down costs.”
Kyle Worthington, Head of Power Origination at Orsted, said: “We’re delighted to begin this relationship with OVO Energy and help the UK move towards a greener, more climate-friendly energy system.
“It is great to see major suppliers like OVO committing to increase the amount of electricity they are sourcing from renewable generators and we are very happy to help them on this journey.”
Hugh Yendole, Barrow offshore wind farm director, said: “It’s great to see our well-established assets such as Barrow offshore wind farm continuing to provide value to new customers.
“This agreement underlines the value of our investment during the last decade and of Orsted’s world-class operations and maintenance and asset management teams, keeping more mature assets productive and efficient for the foreseeable future.”
