Renewables consultancy OWC has entered into a partnership with Portuguese-based WavEC targeting opportunities in the country’s floating offshore wind industry.
Portugal plans to auction 10GW of floating wind potential in 2023.
The companies’ strategic partnership pools OWC’s global capabilities and track record in more than 50 floating wind projects with WavEC’s established market presence, offshore site testing resources and experience in environmental impact assessment and the optimisation of operations and maintenance in floating wind.
The partnership also brings together two like-minded companies to provide clients with an “even bigger and better” service offering to support optimised decision-making throughout the lifecycle and value chain of a floating wind project.
“We have already been working side by side on many innovation projects globally, and development projects locally,” said OWC chief executive William Cleverly.
“Historically, we also both have experience on the country’s pioneering floating wind project, Windfloat Atlantic. We are now well placed to support the next 10GW of floating wind together,” he added.
Founded in 2003, WavEC specialises in driving innovation and development in wave energy, offshore wind, aquaculture and ocean engineering projects.
OWC is a specialist global consultancy that helps develop and deliver projects and investments in offshore and onshore wind, solar PV, battery energy storage, hydrogen, and wave and tidal energy.
“Together we are able to provide a wider service offering and stronger capacity to support the expansion of commercial-scale floating wind in new markets,” says president of WavEC’s board of directors Marco Alves.
