Australian engineering outfit Worley is designing the offshore substations for the 700MW Revolution Wind offshore wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island, US.
The contract, awarded by project developer Orsted, is for the engineering and design of two offshore topside substations.
Worley started work on the project last month and installation of the substations is expected in 2022.
Revolution Wind is being developed 15km off the southern part of the Rhode Island coast.
Worley global wind lead Eoghan Quinn said: “This project is directly aligned to our strategic priority of supporting our customers through the energy transition, as the world moves from traditional fossil power generation to renewable power generation.”
Worley said it has devised a unique approach to the substations’ design by combining its digital, new energy and offshore hydrocarbons expertise.
The approach has resulted in an “innovative and cost-competitive offering”, which, according to Worley, has provided it with a template to use for future proposals.
Quinn said: “This project award builds on a previous Orsted framework agreement win, further solidifying our strong and ongoing partnership with this customer and our presence in the US market.”
Worley will deliver the project via its Reading, Pennsylvania, office. The company was previously know as Worley Parsons.
