France will launch its 1GW fourth round Normandy offshore wind tender by the end of year, a senior industry source has confirmed.
The government will officially confirm its intention to go ahead with the tender with a notice in the Journal Officiel, probably within the next few days, and will launch the tender procedure by the end of December, the source said.
Two main zones off Normandy were identified following the public consultation – one off the coast of Barfleur and one off Fecamp.
Offers are expected to be made between August and November 2021, it is understood.
Late last month, a group of local Normandy officials including Mayor of Le Havre and former French Prime Minister Edouard Phillipe called on French Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili to press on with a swift launch of the fourth round tender.
Separately, a 250MW floating offshore wind tender for South Brittany is nearing the end of its consultation process and could launch in early 2021.
