WPD has started full commercial operations at the 111MW Nordergründe offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The German developer said the last of the project’s 18 Senvion 6.2M126 turbines were connected to the grid on 17 December.
The turbines had been installed by the start of December last year. However, commissioning of the project was delayed after substation supplier BVT filed for insolvency in autumn 2016, delaying delivery of the structure.
The remaining substation work was carried out by several sub-contractors, with GE delivering the HV/MV equipment, Muehlhan doing the coating and Stahlbau Nord finalising the steel works.
John Laing Group and the Gothaer Insurance Group are also investors in the wind farm.
Nordergründe managing director Achim Berge Olsen said: “Yesterday was a special day for all of us. We are very happy to have successfully completed the project.”
