Orsted has officially inaugurated the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The project comprises 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.3MW turbines, which were installed ahead of schedule.
It features suction bucket jacket foundations and is located 57km off the coast of Lower Saxony.
First power was delivered in November last year.
Orsted managing director in Germany Volker Malmen said: “Offshore wind energy is a reliable cornerstone for a successful energy transition.
“With MHI Vestas’ 8.3MW turbines for Borkum Riffgrund 2, we set a new milestone for offshore wind in Germany, by pioneering this technology in German waters.”
MHI Vestas chief operations officer Flemming Ougaard said: “The collaboration with Orsted and other installation partners on Borkum Riffgrund 2 was outstanding.
“The project is a noteworthy contribution to the German clean energy transition.”
