Poland has awarded 3.4GW of capacity across three projects in the country’s maiden competitive offshore wind auction, according to the Energy Regulatory Office.
The tender attracted four bids from which three winners were selected.
Auction rules stated the total capacity of winning bids must not exceed 90% of the 4GW installed capacity that was up for grabs.
The successful projects comprise Orlen’s 900MW Baltic East, PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna’s 975MW Baltica 9 and Polenergia-Equinor’s 1560MW Baltyk 1.
All three schemes are expected to become operational by the end of 2032.
As part of the winning bids the developers have secured 25-year two-sided Contracts for Difference at strike prices between €113 and €117 per megawatt-hour.
Immediate analysis from Rystad Energy indicated this was around 5-10% higher than average electricity prices in Poland in the third quarter of this year and should allow the projects to generate “double digit” returns.
Energy Regulatory Office President Renata Mroczek said: “The first auction for offshore wind in Poland is an event of significant importance on the path of energy transformation of our country.
“The fact that it was successfully carried out is a reason for satisfaction for me.”
