The Polish government and leading developers have vowed to deliver a UK-style sector deal for the country’s nascent offshore wind sector.
Officials in Warsaw, business associations and industrial companies signed a letter of intent to develop the policy.
The blueprint will provide strategic guidance for the development of the sector in Poland.
It will also set a framework for the cooperation between the Polish administration and the offshore wind industry.
Equinor, which signed the letter of intent, said it was an important moment in the development of offshore wind in Poland.
Equinor’s VP emerging regions in new energy solutions, Ingunn Svegården, said: “We have positive experiences from the ‘Sector Deal’ process in the United Kingdom, which has been instrumental for the successful development of the British offshore wind industry.”
Equinor said it was currently working on three large-scale Polish projects together with partner Polenergia.
Equinor Polska’s management board president Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk said “These projects are amongst the most mature offshore wind projects in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
“We have already started our engagement with potential Polish and international suppliers and are looking forward to deepening the cooperation.”
