Principle Power has paused federal review of a lease request for the 25MW WindFloat Pacific floating offshore wind pilot off Oregon.
“Oregon just wasn’t ready for the project,” project manager Kevin Bannister told reNEWS in June. “We’re not going to keep trying in Oregon but we remain bullish about the US market in general.”
The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said it is not processing the unsolicited lease request at this time at the request of the applicant. BOEM had earlier and mistakenly indicated that the application had been withdrawn.
The federal Energy Department cut funding for the WindFloat Pacific demo in June. Partners Principle and Deepwater Wind failed to land a power purchase agreement for the three-turbine scheme when utilities balked at above-market prices and state support slipped away.
Principle’s floating foundation technology could suit a trio of offshore wind projects in the works in Hawaii and California.
