French grid operator RTE has handed Italian cable outfit Prysmian a €150m contract to supply on- and offshore export cables for the Engie-led LEM consortium’s 496MW Noirmoutier offshore wind farm off France’s Atlantic coast.
Prysmian said the turnkey contract covers the design, supply, installation and commissioning of two HVAC 225kV three-core extruded export submarine cables with single-wire armouring.
The cables will run from the project’s offshore substation to a landfall area at La Barre-de-Monts beach.
Prysmian will also supply and joint two HVAC 225kV extruded land cables circuits that will link the landfall area to the substation at Soullans.
The Italian company said the offshore cables will be built in facilities at Pikala in Finland and Arco Felice in Italy. Onshore lines will be built in Gron, France.
The company will use its Cable Enterprise vessel to install the offshore wires. Both on- and offshore lines are due to be installed and commissioned in 2023.
“We are proud to be contributing to the development of infrastructures of such great strategic importance,” said Hakan Ozmen, executive vice president of Prysmian’s projects business.
“This contract not only consolidates our relationship with RTE, but also confirms Prysmian’s worldwide leadership in addressing the increasing need for upgraded power grids to support the energy transition,” Ozmen added.
