Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian has completed a 17km export cable for the first phase of the 50MW Kincardine floating wind project off Scotland and will load out the wire for installation by the end of the month.
A spokeswoman said the line has “successfully passed the required tests” and will leave its Drammen facility shortly.
Cable installation was originally due to start in May and June. However, Prysmian told reNEWS last month that unspecified “issues” during factory acceptance tests and “related fixing” delayed this.
“The delayed loading will not affect the project’s completion schedule,” the manufacturer added.
Developer Kincardine Offshore has shipped a Vestas V80 2MW turbine atop Principle Power’s WindFloat platform for installation to the project site off Aberdeenshire.
ACS-owned Kincardine must go live before October this year in order to qualify for Scottish floating wind Renewables Obligation supports.
A six-turbine second phase featuring MHI Vestas 8.4MW units is planned for 2019.
The initial Kincardine unit was previously deployed off Portugal (pictured).
