Prysmian has won a €30m turnkey contract to supply cables for EDF Renouvelables’ 24MW Provence Grand Large floating offshore wind farm project in the waters off the south of France.
The deal covers 3km of submarine dynamic inter-array cables and 19km of export cables, in addition to the land cables for a route of 9km.
Submarine cables will be produced at Prysmian’s factories in Drammen, Norway, and Vilanova, Spain, while the land cables will be manufactured in the company’s Gron plant in France.
Commissioning of the project is scheduled in 2021, conditional upon the signing of the contract, which is expected in the summer.
Prysmian offshore wind sales team manager Alessandro Panico said: “It is the first turnkey project for a floating wind farm ever developed by the group, where we employ our innovative dynamic 66kV submarine cables with EPR insulation.”
The PGL contract also includes a combined PRY-CAM permanent monitoring system, developed in collaboration with the customer.
All inter-array connections will be permanently monitored for partial discharge measurements, distributed temperature and acoustic sensing to measure the operating parameters of the whole cable system.
According to Prysmian, PGL is the “first example in the world of a full combined permanent monitoring system for an offshore wind farm”.
PGL will feature three 8MW Siemens Gamesa turbines with the floating foundations provided by SBM Offshore and IFP Energies Nouvelles.
