Cranemaster has extended its fleet of units with the world’s largest passive heave compensator (PHC), which has been used to help install monopiles at the 400MW Rampion offshore wind farm off the south coast of England.
The 60-tonne unit has a safe working load of 1000 tonnes and has a maximum stroke length of 4000 mm, Cranemaster said.
The Rampion work involved the prevention of interruptions and damage caused by pile runs.
Cranemaster said the PHC has an advanced control system that adapts to the various lifting phases during operations and optimises performance for each stage of the lift.
“This is particularly useful for deep water operations and splash zone crossing of demanding structures,” the company said.
