Red Rock Power and ESB are bidding to push back the deadline for the final design of the onshore substation for 1.1GW Inch Cape wind farm off east Scotland.
The developers, through joint venture Inch Cape Offshore, will submit a formal request to East Lothian Council later this year to extend the planning permission cut off.
Planning bosses had given the company until February next year to finalise its blueprint for the onshore substation in Cockenzie, Fife, when the project gained permission in principle two years ago.
But Inch Cape Offshore said it now needs more time to finalise its designs, blaming the Covid-19 pandemic for the delay.
Inch Cape Offshore stakeholder manager Nikki Keddie said: “The project has planning permission in principle for the onshore substation and related works which was granted in 2019.
“However this permission expires in 2022 and we now intend to apply for more time to finalise the design of the substation and to submit the information required in the conditions attached to the consent.
“Our consultation events are an opportunity for local people to find out more about this process and to offer their views. All are welcome to attend and participate.”
A three week public consultation ahead of its application to have the deadline move back will begin next week.
