RWE has signed an eight-year power purchase agreement with Carlsberg Sverige to supply renewable electricity from the Orken onshore wind farm to the company’s brewery in Falkenberg.

RWE said the agreement will run from January 2026 to December 2033 and cover 25GWh of clean electricity a year, equivalent to around 80% of the brewery’s energy demand.

The Orken project in south-west Sweden comprises eight turbines with a capacity of 26MW.

Olaf Lubenow, head of commodity solutions UK, North & South Europe at RWE Supply & Trading, said: “This long-term agreement will enable Carlsberg Sweden to meet an increasing proportion of its energy needs from renewable sources.”

He said: “At RWE we are committed to helping industries achieve their decarbonization targets. We are proud to be a trusted partner of the global Carlsberg brand.”

Jonas Kudermann, vice president integrated supply chain at Carlsberg Sverige, said: “We are firmly committed to reducing our carbon emissions and are working intensively in several ways to achieve this.”

He said: “The investment in wind power is an important step on our journey towards Net Zero by 2040, and we are pleased to be able to meet 80 percent of our energy needs with renewable and locally produced wind power from Halland.”

Carlsberg said all beverages produced in Sweden have run on 100% renewable energy since 2017, through certified green electricity and biogas.

RWE said its 38GW portfolio of renewable and flexible assets positions it as a major supplier of long-term PPAs for industrial customers seeking stable pricing and lower carbon footprints.
