RWE has welcomed UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband’s decision to grant a Development Consent Order for the 1.1GW Five Estuaries wind farm off east England.
The developer said securing the planning green light yesterday (17 December) was a “significant milestone” for the extension scheme that will add up to 79 turbines to the operational 354MW Galloper array.
“We are delighted to have received development consent for Five Estuaries,” said RWE Director of Development for UK and Ireland Danielle Lane.
“This achievement reflects year of dedicated community engagement and collaboration with local stakeholders.”
The project is being developed by RWE on behalf of fellow co-owners ESB, a Macquirie-led consortium and Sumitomo Corporation.
The company said that next steps will be to secure a route to market before reaching a financial decision and commencing construction ahead of a grid connection date in 2030.
Five Estuaries was eligible to be entered into the in-progress Allocation Round 7.
