Montrose Port is touting its credentials as a support hub for the offshore wind industry after assisting with Statoil’s 30MW Hywind floating pilot project off Scotland.
The port, just north of Dundee, stored the mooring systems for Hywind’s five Siemens 6MW wind turbines ahead of their deployment to the project site, completed last week.
It marked the first time the port has supported the offshore wind sector.
“North Sea offshore wind is undoubtedly a growing market and this has instilled a sense of opportunity within the energy industry,” Montrose Port Authority chief executive Nik Scott-Gray said.
Montrose Port already has experience storing and handling mooring systems for the North Sea oil and gas sector.
