ScottishPower Renewables has assumed full ownership of the MarramWind floating offshore wind farm following agreement with former joint venture partner Shell.
Located 75km off the north-east coast of Aberdeenshire, MarramWind has a potential capacity of up to 3GW and could become one of the world’s first commercial-scale floating wind farms, capable of powering more than 3.5 million homes.
With Crown Estate Scotland’s approval, ScottishPower Renewables now has sole responsibility for the project, while Shell takes full ownership of the CampionWind development, which had also been advanced as a joint venture.
A ScottishPower Renewables spokesperson said: “With sole responsibility for MarramWind – alongside our MachairWind project – we will now continue the development of these windfarms and maintain our positive engagement with local people and businesses.”
