The Finnish Government has approved a research permit for SeaSapphire’s Wellamo floating wind farm in the Bothnian Sea.
The Simply Blue-Eolus joint venture has been given consent to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment, beginning in January 2023, as well as seabed investigations which will be carried out later next year.
The Wellamo Floating Wind project is expected to have a capacity between 1GW and 2GW and is located in the Finnish economic zone approximately 90 km off the coast, southwest of Pori.
It is set to feature around 100 turbines however the final number will be determined at a later stage, SeaSapphire said.
Wellamo is one of four floating offshore wind parks being developed jointly by Eolus and Simply Blue Group in Finland and Sweden under the SeaSapphire brand.
