Seaway 7 ASA has been selected as a preferred contractor by Orsted for the transport and installation of turbines for part of the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms off Germany.

Jack-up installation vessel Vind 1 will be utilised for the jobs.

The projects are expected to be fully commissioned in 2024 and 2025, Seaway 7 ASA.

It added that the contract award is subject to EU tendering procedures, and Orsted’s final investment decision to proceed with the projects.

Seaway 7 chief executive Stuart Fitzgerald said: “We are excited to have been awarded this contract, which is the first award for our new build wind turbine installation vessel.

“We see this award as a positive validation of the recent combination to form Seaway 7 ASA, as well as the Vind 1 vessel capabilities, and we look forward to continue our working relationship with Orsted.”

Orsted has also chosen Cadeler as preferred contractor for a turbine installation vessel at the wind farms, covering the transport and installation of a minimum of 48 11MW turbines.

Cadeler will deploy its installation vessel Wind Osprey, which by the time the project is set to start, will have a new and upgraded main crane.

The company said the intention with this award is to sign a formal binding contract once the mandatory standstill period has expired.

This is expected to be completed later this year.
