The team building SENSEWind’s 2MW SENSE self-installing wind turbine demonstrator has achieved successful factory acceptance testing of the main load carrying part of the system, which hoists the fully-assembled turbine rotor nacelle up the tower.
The lifting assembly was installed onto a test section of the tower rail and trialled to a proof load under simulated operational conditions.
Witnessed by ABL Group and conducted at Caley Ocean Systems’ facility in Glasgow, Scotland, the testing has verified the technology meets the design requirements and is ready for use on site.
The tests have verified a range of factors including operational loads, bearing surfaces, repeatability, and contamination.
SENSEWind chief executive and founder Patrick Geraets said: “The factory acceptance test results are another important milestone in our demonstration programme, further building confidence that the technology will perform as expected on the 2MW wind turbine being installed next year.”
