A consortium of Shell, Van Oord, Eneco and Mitsubishi/Diamond Generating Europe has won the right to develop and build the 680MW Borssele 3&4 offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
The winning strike price bid excluding transmission costs is €54.50 per megwatt hour (MWh).
The consortium said the preferred supplier for the turbines is MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.
It added that they were “pleased and honoured” to have won the tender for the project, which will be located 22km off the coast of Zeeland.
The Dutch government said that the subsidy to build and operate the wind farm is expected to be €300m, substantially lower than the originally anticipated €5bn.
“With the current energy price outlook, the second wind farm in Borssele can be operated without subsidy after 7.5 years,” it said.
Borssele 3&4 is slated for commissioning in 2020 and is the second of five bidding rounds planned by the Netherlands.
Dong won the tender for the 700MW Borssele 1&2 projects with a price of €72.70/MWh.
The country aims to have 4.5GW of offshore wind capacity installed by 2023.
