Vattenfall has signed a contract for the supply of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system for the 1400MW Norfolk Vanguard East Wind Farm off the eastern coast of England, which follows on from the deal for Norfolk Vanguard West signed on 8 November.
The agreement gives Siemens Energy and Aker Solutions responsibility for engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the onshore and offshore converter stations for Norfolk Vanguard East.
The scope of work for Aker Solutions includes the EPCI of the HVDC offshore platform.
The fabrication of the topside will be executed in a joint venture with Drydocks World Dubai, and the substructure will be fabricated at Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Norway.
“We are pleased to announce the second award for the Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone development for Vattenfall. We look forward to supporting Vattenfall to deliver one of the largest offshore wind zones in the world,” said executive vice president of new build at Aker Solutions Sturla Magnus.
Located more than 47km from the Norfolk coast, the 2.8GW Norfolk Vanguard project will provide the equivalent electricity needs of 1.95m UK homes per year.
