Siemens has won a contract from Dong Energy to supply high voltage switchgear for the offshore substation at the 448MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm in the German North Sea.
No details were given of the price of the deal in the contract notice, however, Siemens’ bid was described as the “most economically advantageous”.
Slovenia’s Kolektor Etra has been contracted to supply transformers, while Heerema Marine Contractors is to transport and install the HSM Offshore-built substation.
The substation’s jacket foundation is expected to be installed in the third quarter of 2017, with the topside following in the second quarter of 2018.
Borkum Riffgrund 2, which will be located 34km north of Borkum island, will consist of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW machines to be installed by Fred Olsen Windcarrier.
The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2019.
