Siemens has been confirmed as the turbine supplier for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 wind farm off the Suffolk coast.
The German turbine manufacturer will deliver 102 7MW machines each with rotor diametres of 154 metres. A 5-year servicing deal is also included.
The turbines will be installed on jacket foundations, Siemens said. Nacelles will be manufactured in Cuxhaven with blades to be produced at the company’s Hull facility. Great Yarmouth has been selected as a pre-assembly base.
First turbines are set to be installed in the summer of 2019.
“Siemens is delighted to work with ScottishPower Renewables on the East Anglia 1 offshore wind power plant,” Siemens Wind Power chief executive Michael Hannibal.
“This represents the largest single order ever for our direct-drive, 7MW wind turbine. The decision to go with our innovative wind turbines underscores the contribution made by these units to reducing the costs of offshore wind power.”
SPR said today that the Low Carbon Contracts Company (LCCC) has also confirmed that EA1’s £119/MWh CfD milestone has been reached.
Company chief executive Keith Anderson said: “We have concluded Europe’s largest project-specific wind turbine agreement just a month after taking our final investment decision, and we have scaled the final hurdle by satisfying our CfD conditions with the LCCC.
“It is now full steam ahead for East Anglia 1, with ground set to be broken early next year.”
