Siemens Gamesa has been awarded type certification for its 15MW wind turbine.
TUV Nord has provided the type certificate for the SG 14-236 DD, which has undergone testing during the past year.
In March 2023 the manufacturer achieved first power from the 15MW offshore turbine prototype at the Oesterild test site in Denmark.
The manufacturer’s Power Boost technology increases the SG 14-236 DD machine’s 14MW capacity to 15MW.
The prototype has a 236-metre diameter rotor and will provide an increase of more than 30% in annual energy production (AEP) compared to its predecessor.
Siemens Gamesa said the model has already secured 8GW-worth of orders.
The turbine will feature at RWE’s 1.1GW Thor offshore wind project, off Denmark.
In late 2023, Orsted took the final investment decision on its 2900MW Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm off England, which will use the SG 14-236 DD machine.
