Siemens Gamesa signs 750MW Firefly MoU

Siemens Gamesa has signed an MoU to supply 15MW turbines to Equinor’s 750MW Bandibuli (Firefly) floating wind farm off South Korea.

The manufacturer has signed an agreement with the developer and Doosan Enerbility for the project.

In attendance at the signing ceremony at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon headquarters were (pictured left to right) chief executive of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group Seungwoo Sohn, chief executive of Siemens Gamesa’s offshore business Marc Becker and senior vice president of Equinor Renewables APAC Ingunn Svegården.

Under the MoU, the three parties will be cooperating on the 750MW development project being pursued by Equinor off the coast of Ulsan, South Korea.

Once the scheme is finalised, Siemens Gamesa will be deploying a 15MW turbine, with Doosan Enerbility assembling the nacelles for the machines at its Changwon wind turbine shop.

“The partnership between Doosan and Siemens Gamesa is recognized as being a most realistic and optimal cooperation model that will help expedite the expansion of the Korean domestic wind market,” said Sohn.

He added, “With the signing of this MoU, we will be able to further solidify the partnership between the three companies and by continuously engaging in collaborations, we expect to contribute to the promotion of Korea’s offshore wind power ecosystem.”
