Siemens has signed a deal with EMS Maritime Offshore (EMO) to set up a construction and operations base at the Dutch port of Eemshaven.
The deal will see Siemens Nederland NV build on offshore service hub at the port. Expansion of the port’s existing facilities is also planned including new warehouse and office buildings.
The German turbine manufacturer will use Eemshaven as a base for turbine installation at the 600MW Gemini offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea. It will also base its 15-year O&M service work for the project from the port.
Siemens project manager Mikael Majgaard said: “We wanted a long-term solution which meets our values of Green Logistics and which lies in close proximity to the wind farm. In addition, with EMO we have found a partner that attended individually to our wishes and has created an exemplary logistics concept.”
EMO managing director Knut Gerdes added: “Eemshaven has already shown that it is perfectly suited for the installation of wind farms. Now we get the opportunity to expand the good reputation to the O&M phase.”
