Sif has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ballast Nedam as part of the process to develop a JV under the name of BNS Decom that specialises in the decommissioning of obsolete and aged offshore wind farms.
BNS Decom intends to revolutionise the decommissioning process for offshore wind farms, serving as the ultimate, turnkey solution provider for asset owners.
It will take a few years before a substantial number of wind farms is due for decommissioning, but Ballast Nedam and Sif believe that they need to prepare for this expected market.
Converting old monopiles into green steel plates for new monopiles, is an important step towards a sustainable and circular future in offshore wind, Sif said.
