SSE Renewables and Acciona Energia expect a leasehold decision for their 954MW offshore wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea early next year.
SSE said the outcome of the Polish government’s Offshore Location License allocation round is expected in the first quarter of 2023.
The government has opened up 11 areas of seabed for potential development under the tender.
The UK utility teamed up with Spain’s Acciona Energia last year to explore offshore wind opportunities and filed an application for the Polish seabed area 60.E.4 in April 2022.
If successful, the companies will have an opportunity to qualify and participate the project in a fresh round of Polish Contracts for Difference (CfD) subsidy auctions starting in 2025.
SSE is also working with Acciona Energia to identify offshore wind opportunities in Spain, it revealed in its latest financial results. The JV is awaiting an update from the Spanish government on the country’s final offshore wind regulations.
Separately, SSE remains in contention for 700MW Hollandse Kust West Site 6 tender in the Netherlands, the results of which have been delayed until next month. The utility is vying for the site alongside consortium partner Brookfield Renewable Partners.
