SSE has broken ground on the landfall point of the export cable for its 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm off the Scottish coast.
The move near Portgordon marks the start of enabling works at the project’s main construction compound, SSE said.
The cable will run about 20kms underground from the landfall point to a new substation adjacent to an existing one at Blackhillock, south of Keith.
Offshore construction is scheduled to begin next year and the wind farm is expected to become fully operational in 2019.
The facility will comprise 84 Siemens 7MW turbines.
