SSE Renewables has submitted foreshore lease applications for two new offshore wind projects off the coast of Ireland totalling 1600MW.
The developer has applied to authorities for permission to carry out site investigations for the 800MW Braymore Point project off the north-east and 800MW Celtic Sea Array off the south-east, as reported in today’s issue of subscriber-only reNEWS.
The former is located 18km off counties Louth, Meath and Dublin while the latter is 25km off Waterford, Wexford and Cork.
Deep water at the Celtic Sea Array will make it suitable for floating foundations, SSE said.
Site investigations will include geophysical, geotechnical and environmental surveys, including nearshore shallow geological mapping and baseline environmental mapping.
Work will be carried out between April and October over the coming months. Public consultations will start in the coming weeks.
Both locations have been selected after a site selection process that includes regional resource and constraints assessments.
Preliminary shipping and navigations assessments have also been carried out.
