US company Aecom is to provide support to the planning and development stage of the up to 2GW Star of the South offshore wind farm off the coast of Australia.
Star of the South will be Australia’s first offshore wind farm and is planned to be located off the Gippsland coast in Victoria.
Aecom director of the environment team David Hyett said: “The Star of the South, is a game changer for the renewable energy market in Victoria and will help to facilitate the transition to more sustainable energy sources.
“Our team of planners, ecologists, social scientists and heritage specialists will help navigate the rigorous approvals process in a way that is sensitive to both the environment and the local community.”
Star of the South chief executive Casper Frost Thorhauge and Aecom regional managing director for Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania are pictured signing the contract.
The developers of the Star of the South project kicked off a wind measurement campaign earlier this month.
Two floating lidar devices have been deployed to collect data for several years.
The wind farm is slated to be operational by 2027.
