STX has been selected to supply and install the offshore substation for the Otary consortium’s 309MW Rentel wind farm off Belgium.
The French company’s EPCI contract includes design, fabrication, transport, offshore installation and commissioning of the monopile foundation and topside including high voltage and ancillary equipment.
This is the first major contract being signed by Rentel and was described as “a decisive step towards the realisation of a new Belgian offshore wind farm of 309MW”.
The project is located around 32km off the Belgian coast. Final contracts for turbine supply/installation – where Siemens 7MW hardware is the preferred option – foundations and cables are set to be finalised shortly.
Rentel is set to complete its project financing fundraising by the summer 2016 for an amount of €1.25bn with the construction works starting shortly thereafter.
First power is due in 2018 with full operations by end of that same year.
