The Swedish government has refused a permit for developer Blekinge Offshore’s Hanöbukten offshore wind farm.
The environment ministry rejected the project, which would have consisted of 350 or 700 turbines over 200 square kilometres, because it was planned in a strategically important practice area for the country’s armed forces.
“The government has come to the conclusion that in this case it is not possible to combine the planned wind farm with the armed forces’ operations,” the ministry said.
The wind farm would have been located in area five kilometres southeast of Hanö in Sölvesborg municipality and about 10km south of Tärnö in Karlshamn, it added.
