The Swedish government has proposed reducing connection costs for offshore wind as part of a new energy agreement.
An amendment to the Swedish power grid instruction to give force to the plan is proposed to enter into force on 1 August 2021.
The proposed cost cut is out for consultation until 3 May 2021.
A memorandum proposes that the Swedish power grid operator Svenska kraftnat be given the task of extending the transmission network to areas within Sweden’s maritime territory.
“More offshore wind power will contribute to the balance of the power system and will be an important addition to the electricity market,” said energy minister Anders Ygeman.
By developing the transmission network within Sweden’s maritime territory, the costs of connecting offshore electricity generation plants to the transmission network will be reduced, creating a more level playing field for connecting offshore and onshore wind power, said an announcement by the government about the proposal.
