Swire Blue Ocean has signed a final contract with Vattenfall for the transport and installation of 140 Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbines that will feature at the developer’s 1.5GW Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm off the Netherlands.
Swire said it will use jack-up vessel Pacific Osprey to install the hardware at the zero-subsidy project.
The vessel is currently having its 1,200-tonne crane repaired and upgraded and will fit the hoist with a 15-metre boom extension ahead of tackling the installation job.
“We have worked very closely with Vattenfall to secure the bid with the Dutch authorities and will continue maintaining this successful collaborative approach,” Swire Blue Ocean chief executive Mikkel Gleerup (pictured, right) said.
“This contract enables Swire Blue Ocean to step into the next generation of turbines and demonstrates its ability to adapt to the fast evolution of the market,” he added.
Turbine installation at the project is due to start in mid-2022 and will take around one year to complete.
The Hollandse Kust Zuid site is due to be fully operational in summer 2023 and Vattenfall is due to reach financial close on the project later this year.
“Early and close collaboration with suppliers like Swire Blue Ocean was a deciding factor in our successful bid to build the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm,” said Catrin Jung, the acting head of Vattenfall’s offshore wind business unit.
“Today we take another step closer to the actual construction of this exciting project.”
