During 2023 approximately 2250MW of offshore wind capacity was constructed off the coast of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Despite several typhoons and a limited construction wind, lasting 6-7 months, in 2023 the total number of turbines installed reached 283.
The installation of 2.25GW of capacity has meant that Taiwan has reached its 2023 offshore wind power installation target of 2.03GW-2.43GW.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, offshore wind power remains a key element of Taiwan’s renewable energy policy objective to achieve its energy transition.
Taiwan’s energy department and wind farm developers have formed a task force to track the progress of the project every month, and cooperate with various administrative agencies to help remove relevant obstacles.
This enables the public and private sectors to work together to achieve the goal of installing 314-374 wind turbines in 2024, with a cumulative installation capacity of 2.56GW-3.04GW.
