Dutch/German transmission system operator TenneT delivered over 21% more offshore wind energy from the North Sea in the first half of 2020 than in the same period last year.
TenneT said that offshore wind power transmitted along its infrastructure rose to 11.51 terawatt-hours in the first six months of 2020, compared with 9.51TWh in 2019.
It added that wind energy from the North Sea in Germany accounted for 15.6% of the country’s total wind power, which reached 73.7TWh in the first half of 2020.
TenneT managing director Tim Meyerjurgens said: “The expansion and integration of offshore wind energy is of central importance for the European energy transition.
“With Borssele alpha and – from mid-August – Borssele beta, we now also have the first two offshore in the Dutch North Sea Connections successfully implemented.
“We are consistently moving ahead with the key factors of innovation, standardisation and cost efficiency.”
He added that by 2030, the company will be investing around €20bn to connect offshore wind energy in the Netherlands and Germany.
TenneT currently connects over 7.1GW of offshore wind in Germany and by mid-August 2020, it will reach 1.4GW of connection capacity in the Dutch North Sea.
