TenneT has started field work on the potential cable routes for the two 700MW Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind sites in the North Sea.
The TSO will check the soil conditions for the three alternative routes ahead of the Dutch government’s decision on a preferred one after summer, it said.
One route would connect to a terminal at Wateringen while two others lead to a facility in Maasvlakte.
TenneT plans to start building the selected terminal in 2018 and connect the wind farms to the national grid by 2021.
It will also connect another 700MW site to the north – Hollandse Kust Noord – by 2023.
