Thistle Wind Partners has submitted an offshore consent application to the Scottish government for the 1GW Ayre floating wind farm off east Orkney.
The scheme will comprise up to 67 turbines, two offshore substation platforms, three interconnector cables and four export cables, according to filings with Marine Scotland.
Power is due to be exported to SSEN’s proposed Banniskirk Hub substation near Spittal in Caithness. Plans for the grid connection and onshore infrastructure were submitted by TWP to the Highland Council in August.
The ScotWind project is expected to come online in 2033 following a three-year build-out.
The developer also filed an onshore permit application with Aberdeenshire Council this week for the 1GW fixed-bottom Bowdun scheme 44km east of Stonehaven.
