A 13MW wind turbine has been installed at China Three Gorge’s (CTG) 299MW Pingtan offshore wind farm off the coast of Fujian, China.
With an impeller diameter of 130 metres, the machine provides a swept area of 35,000 square metres, which is equivalent to about five standard football fields, CTG said.
This turbine is expected to produce 50 million kWh of clean energy annually, meeting the power demand of over 25,000 families per year and reducing consumption of standard coal by 15,000 tonnes and CO₂ emissions by 38,000 tonnes.
The Baihetan vessel, the world’s first new-generation 2000-tonne offshore wind farm installation platform, was utilised for the installation.
With a deck area of 4000 square metres, it can lift goods up to 2000-tonne and work underwater up to 70 metres deep, providing a stable platform in changing sea conditions, CTG added.
