RWE has marked a milestone in the development of Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm with a topping-out ceremony for the project’s new operations and maintenance base.
The 2,300-square metre facility at Thorsminde port will support the 1.08GW Thor offshore wind farm, which is due to be completed in 2027.
Construction of the three-storey building is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
From spring 2026, service vessels will depart daily from the port to transfer technicians and operating personnel to the turbines.
RWE said the base will create 50–60 permanent jobs in Thorsminde, where it plans to maintain operations for at least 30 years.
“The operations building for Thor will be the heart of our daily work and will create lasting local jobs in Thorsminde for many years to come,” said Pernille Asgaard Haaning, CEO of RWE Renewables Denmark.
“It is also a strong symbol of the community and local support that has carried the project forward.”
Thor is a joint project between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), with RWE leading construction and operations.
The facility will feature low-carbon steel towers and recyclable rotor blades on half the turbines.
Installation of the wind farm’s 72 turbines is expected to begin in 2026.
Once operational, Thor will supply power to more than one million Danish households.
