TotalEnergies has established a clean energy research centre with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

On the occasion of his visit to Denmark, Patrick Pouyanné signed an agreement with the President of the DTU on the creation of the DTU-TotalEnergies Excellence Centre of Clean Energy.

This research centre of excellence will aim to develop reliable, cost-effective and low-emission energy solutions, improve the intermittency of renewable energy and accelerate the decarbonisation of industrial installations.

Located in Risø, west of Copenhagen, the new centre will be housed on the premises of the DTU, which is, among other things, known for being “at the forefront of offshore wind research”.

TotalEnergies is developing a global portfolio of offshore wind projects with a total capacity of more than 11GW.

The DTU-TotalEnergies Excellence Centre of Clean Energy has three focuses.

One is a pilot, backed by the Risø power plant, which will test different systems to optimise wind energy production with battery storage and green hydrogen production.

The scientific data from this pilot will be used as part of the research programmes.

The other is training provision, where the DTU will support the training of TotalEnergies employees through online master courses and tailor-made training on electricity and clean energies.

The third is research collaborations, where TotalEnergies researchers and engineers will collaborate with DTU teachers, researchers and students on research programmes to jointly develop technological solutions, particularly on next-generation wind technologies and floating wind turbines.

“As a trusted partner for companies looking to increase the sustainability of the energy system, DTU is pleased to begin this collaboration with TotalEnergies.

“Our partnership will be based on scientific excellence and key new technologies, and I hope it will provide a platform for even closer cooperation and future sustainable energy research between DTU and TotalEnergies,” said Anders Bjarklev, President of the DTU.
