TUV Nord has certified the prototype of Siemens Gamesa’s 10MW offshore wind turbine.
The work involved evaluation of the design of the 10.0-193 prototype according to the IECRE scheme and corresponding operational documents.
A prototype certificate was prepared according to the Danish ‘executive order’ on the technical certification scheme for wind turbines, TUV Nord said.
The prototype will be installed at the Osterild wind test centre in Denmark in the upcoming months, TUV Nord said.
Tests and measurements including load validation, safety and functional tests as well as power performance measurements will be carried out on the prototype.
Based on the obtained results, TUV Nord will verify the turbine characteristics as set out in the design evaluation.
As part of the final type certification, TUV Nord will also perform the manufacturing evaluation of the main components, as well as the nacelle and hub assembly.
TUV Nord management board of industry service member Silvio Konrad said: “We are very pleased to support our partner Siemens Gamesa by completing this important step towards type certification of this new generation offshore wind turbine.”
The new 10MW turbines are expected to be ready for the market in 2022.
