Ad Hoc Marine Designs has teamed up with Aluminium Marine Consultants (AMC) on the design of new Swath workboats for the offshore wind industry.
The boats will have an aluminium Swath hull designed with 50% reduced coupling, 20% increased damping and an increase in 25% displacement, AMC said.
The design will allow the boats to maintain service speeds of 25 knots in two-metre significant wave height with extremely low motions, the company said.
Ad Hoc Marine Designs’ architect John Kecsmar has hooked up with AMC for the work, having worked for many years on high-speed passenger ferries, patrol boats, SAR and CTV.
Ad Hoc has also created a hybrid of the Swath design form called the Small Waterplane Area Catamaran (SWAC), which is a blend of a very slender hull form of a high speed catamaran with the rough water capability of a Swath, AMC said.
